BIOSPHERE (NO) /
MIWA MATREYEK (US)
Miwa Matreyek is an internationally recognized animator, designer, and multimedia artist who creates magical, visually rich live works that integrate animation, performance and video installation. In her multimedia live performances she combines projected animation and her own shadow silhouette as she interacts with the fantastical world of the video, merging film and theater to create something that is its own kind of spectacle.
At Meta.Morf 2016 Miwa Matreyek will perform her two works This World Made Itself, a visually and musically rich journey through the history of Earth from the universe’s epic beginnings to the complex world of humans, and Myth and Infrastructure, where she traverses seascapes, cityscapes and domestic spaces to conjure dreamlike scenes with nuanced layers of light and shadow.
Biosphere is the recording name of internationally acclaimed sound artist Geir Jenssen, one of ambient techno’s earliest and most distinct voices. He is well known for his arctic ambient styles, his use of music loops and peculiar samples from sci-fi and other sources. Biosphere’s sound world is pristine, refined, subtle and reflective with great attention to detail. His performances are often improvisations or variations on recent tracks combined with projections of video art.
Jenssen has released numerous albums under the Biosphere name since 1991, both solo works and collaborative works as well as film scores. His track “Novelty Waves” was used for the 1995 Levi’s ad campaign and made the charts in several countries. His 1997 album Substrata is generally seen as one of the all-time classic ambient albums.
