For the piece she has studied sound visualization through spectrograms. While studying bird vocalizations she found that the whistle tones in the spectrograms look visually similar to letters or alphabets. That is one of the links Saarinen tries to make in order to bring the human and nonhuman languages closer to each other. She looks for connections and similarities between the languages in order to dismantle their structures and hierarchies. She is also interested in different kinds of translations between image, sound and text and what knowledge can be gained and lost in the translation process.<\/p>\n
Leena Saarinen<\/strong>
\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-2700 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/metamorf.no\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Leena-Saarinen-scaled-e1648636689919-300x260.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/metamorf.no\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Leena-Saarinen-scaled-e1648636689919-300x260.jpg 300w, https:\/\/metamorf.no\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Leena-Saarinen-scaled-e1648636689919-1024x887.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/metamorf.no\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Leena-Saarinen-scaled-e1648636689919-768x666.jpg 768w, https:\/\/metamorf.no\/2022\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Leena-Saarinen-scaled-e1648636689919.jpg 1155w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/>Leena Saarinen (b. 1988) is a visual artist based in Helsinki, Finland.
